Sound testing
Under Building Regulations Part E 2003 10% of all new residential properties and those subject to major refurbishment require sound tests to ensure the level of acoustic insulation installed meets minimum standards.

Sound Testing

Two types of sound insulation test are undertaken:

  • Airborne which are carried out on walls and floors separating dwellings
  • Impact tests which are only carried out on floors between adjoining dwellings.

If a partition is not gaining compliance with Part E, it is necessary to carry out remedial works in order to retest. EcoHomes and the Code for Sustainable Homes often require extra sound tests to be carried out.
