Display Energy Certificates

Public Display Energy Certificates (DECS)

Display Energy Certificates (DECs) are required for buildings with a total useful floor area over 1,000m 2 that are occupied by a public authority and institution providing a public service to a large number of persons.

The requirement for Display Energy Certificates came into effect on 1 October 2008. DECs highlight the energy usage of a building, the Operational Rating, and allow the public see the efficiency of a building.

The information shown on the DEC is based on the energy consumption of the building as recorded by electricity, gas and other metering techniques. The DEC should be on display to the public at all times and clearly visible. When a DEC is provided an accompanying Advisory Report is provided that lists the possible cost effective measures to improve the energy rating of the building.
