To demonstrate Part L1B 2006 compliance Energy Council uses NHER SAP software to create a thermal models of the dwelling as proposed and one of a notional dwelling the same size/shape with standard U values and heating system.
This assessment method is used to demonstrate that the proposed dwelling emits less CO2 than the notional dwelling and therefore meeting Building Regulations requirements. Although the method of compliance for Refurbishments and Conversions is generally an elemental approach, this option provides more flexibility within the design.
A SAP evaluation is required to enable an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) to be issued for the completed dwelling.
